The Liverpool and Manchester City players who don’t qualify for a Premier League winners’ medal

The Premier League title will be decided today with either Manchester City or Liverpool losing out on the crown.

City have the advantage in the race as they lead the Reds by a single point heading into the final game of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s side face Brighton at the Amex Stadium and can finish on 98 points if they win.

At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on Wolves and could end up on 97 points and still not win the title.

That tally would have been enough to win the title in any other season apart from City’s record-breaking campaign last year when they hit the 100-point mark.

Man City are hoping to retain their Premier League title

One team will get to lift the trophy on Sunday and receive their Premier League medals.

Some of the fringe players, and those who have been injured, will not get a winners’ medal, though, as there are strict rules for who can get one.

Players need to have made a minimum of five appearances to get one.

The rules were changed for the 2012/13 season with ten games needed for a medal to be handed out.

The Premier League board can award additional medals to players who have made fewer than five games but it is at their discretion and is usually reserved for back-up goalkeepers and injured players.

There are a few players who may miss out on a medal if their team wins the title.

For Liverpool, the most notable names are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alberto Moreno.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been restricted to just one substitute appearance since returning from a serious knee injury.

Moreno has deputised for Andy Robertson on two occasions in the league this season with the last of those coming against Burnley in December.

The other players to have made appearances for the club and who will not get a medal is youngster Rafael Camacho, who made just one substitute appearance, and full-back Nathaniel Clyne, who made four appearances before leaving for Bournemouth on loan.

Simon Mignolet will not qualify for one either, with Alisson having been an ever-present in goal. He is likely to get a medal for being the back-up goalkeeper, though.

The only players for Manchester City who have been in and around their first team this season and not made up the number of games are goalkeepers Claudio Bravo and Arijanet Muric.

City have used 21 players in the league this season and all have played more than five games.

Guardiola has been good with rotating his squad throughout the season and having depth at almost every position.

Even players who have been injured this season, like Kevin De Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy, would have got medals under the previous system.

Danilo is the player to have made the fewest appearances in the league with ten.
