Klopp reached the first final of his coaching career with Borussia Dortmund shortly after guiding them to Bundesliga glory just a fortnight before.

Klopp was hugely successful at Dortmund
LOST – 2013 – Champions League Final – Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich
Klopp’s side suffered a painful defeat at the hands of their Bundesliga foe towards the end of the 2012/13 season.
It was a thrilling encounter at Wembley with chances galore for both sides throughout the game. Mario Mandzukic gave Bayern the lead after an hour before Ilkay Gundogan levelled from the spot.
However, it was former Real Madrid and Chelsea winger Robben who broke Dortmund hearts, latching onto Ribery’s flick to clinch it for the Bavarians two minutes from time.
LOST – 2014 German Cup – Borussia Dortmund 0-2 Bayern Munich (aet)
Klopp and Dortmund suffered more pain to their old foe the following season in the German Cup final.
Dortmund had beaten Bayern, who were then coached by Pep Guardiola, just a few weeks before but there was no repeat of this at the Olympic Stadium.
The game was tightly-fought and went to extra time but goals from Robben and Thomas Muller gave Klopp with his second final defeat.

LOST – 2015 German Cup – Borussia Dortmund 1-3 Wolfsburg
Klopp’s last season in charge of Dortmund did not end well. His side slumped to a seventh-placed finish and to make matters worse he added another Cup final defeat to his collection – this time at the hands of Wolfsburg.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got Dortmund off to the perfect start after just five minutes, but Wolfsburg responded brilliantly with Luis Gustavo, Kevin de Bruyne and Bas Dost sealing another final loss for the German.

Klopp has guided Liverpool to a European final for three years running
LOST ON PENALTIES – 2016 Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City
Klopp had his first opportunity to lift a trophy as Liverpool manager just four months after his appointment as they reached the Carabao Cup final against Man City.
They came into the match favourites for the game after they dismantled Manuel Pellegrini’s side 4-1 earlier in the season, but City were the better team at Wembley.
Philippe Coutinho cancelled out Fernandinho’s opener to bring the tie to extra time but the Reds eventually lost the shootout 3-1.
LOST – Europa League Final – Liverpool 1-3 Sevilla
Liverpool had beaten the likes of Man United and Borussia Dortmund on the way to the final in Basel and they got off to the perfect start when Daniel Sturridge’s superb strike put Klopp’s men in front.
However, his side suffered a terrible collapse in the second-half, with Kevin Gameiro levelling proceedings after just 17 seconds and Coke’s double sealing a victory for Unai Emery’s side.
After the game, Klopp said: “I am responsible for this performance. I promise everybody we will use it and come back stronger.”
LOST – 2018 Champions League – Liverpool 1-3 Real Madrid
Real Madrid retained their European title for the third year in a row after two blunders from Loris Karius and a stunning Gareth Bale bicycle kick inflicted a seventh straight cup final defeat for Klopp.

Benzema put the holders ahead shortly after half-time following Karius’ calamitous error before Sadio Mane levelled the tie just four minutes later.
Bale then stunned Liverpool with his wonderstrike before netting another thanks to some more sloppy handling from the Reds stopper.
