Alex McLeish sacked: David Moyes could relaunch managerial career as new Scotland boss, talkSPORT told

David Moyes could relaunch his career in football management by succeeding Alex McLeish as Scotland boss.

That̢۪s the verdict from pundit and commentator Peter Martin, who joined talkSPORT̢۪s Scottish duo Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist to discuss the next step for the SFA.

West Ham United FC news: David Moyes uncertain on future at London Stadium despite ‘really enjoying’ time with Hammers

Moyes’ last job in charge of West Ham lasted just six months

After weeks of speculation, McLeish was finally given the boot on Thursday following Scotland’s dreadful start to Euro 2020 qualifying – suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke and Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes are two of the top favourites linked with succeeding Big ‘Eck.

MORE: McLeish should leave Scotland job ‘as a legend’ and Clarke deserves to be first choice

But, Scotland legend McCoist says the next head coach should be someone who needs the job, rather than wants it.

And Martin believes Moyes would be a perfect fit to pick up the pieces after a dreadful year for the Scottish game.

Speaking on Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the Scottish broadcaster said: â€Å“The third favourite is David Moyes, and my personal view is I would go for him.

â€Å“He is desperately hoping to get another job in the English Premier League, but I don’t think that’s forthcoming.

â€Å“The only question is, have they got enough money to satisfy him?

â€Å“This is a situation where Moyes might need the job to try and get himself in the spotlight – that’s the only saving grace.

Alex McLeish’s second stint as Scotland manager lasted just 14 months

Alex McLeish’s second stint as Scotland manager lasted just 14 months

â€Å“Quite simply, David Moyes hasn’t managed to get himself a Premier League job, so can Scotland convince him this is, for a two or three year period, is a worthwhile proposition for him?

â€Å“Because, as far as the other candidates are concerned, some of them are too young and some of them don’t want to touch it with a bargepole.”
