Barcelona 3-0 Liverpool: Champions League defeat for Reds creates stunning statistic for Premier League title challengers

Most Liverpool fans will agree that their club have been almost perfect this season.

They’re pushing Manchester City all the way in what is the most competitive Premier League title race ever and are in the Champions League semi-finals.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men certainly met their match on Wednesday night when they were beaten by Barcelona in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

Lionel Messi was in inspired form as Barca ran out 3-0 winners on a night where the Reds were guilty of missing big chances.

  • Jurgen Klopp refuses to give up Champions League dreams despite Barcelona defeat

It’s the first time Liverpool have lost a game since January 7, when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves.

But an even more surprising statistic emerged about Liverpool following their defeat at the Camp Nou.

This is their fourth defeat in the Champions League this season, which is more defeats than they’ve experienced in all other competitions combined this campaign (3).

Liverpool were beaten at Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and Paris Saint-Germain in the groups but made it to the knockout stages due to their brilliant home form.

In England, however, they’ve lost just three times – against Chelsea and Wolves in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively and they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City in the Premier League this season.

And yet it’s still looking like it will be another trophyless campaign for the Reds barring a miracle. Football, eh?!
