Shocking footage emerged of the 40-year-old holding his head in pain after being targeted in second half injury-time with his side 2-1 up.

Reports claim paramedics treated Vaca on the pitch before taking him to hospital.

Following the frightening scenes at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, Vaca told reporters: “I’m better now.”

The Bolivia international, who has won 15 caps for his country, played 41 times for Jorge Wilstermann in 2010 before moving to The Strongest a year later.

It remains unclear whether any arrests have been made yet.

Rolando Blackburn and Jhasmani Campos gave The Strongest a 2-0 lead in the first-half before Antonio Melgar pulled one back for the visitors.
