Former Watford star John Barnes says the Hornets could use similar tactics to Leicester when they take on Manchester City in Saturday’s FA Cup final, live on talkSPORT.
The Foxes frustrated Pep Guardiola’s men for 69 minutes before Vincent Kompany’s 25-yard screamer sealed a crucial 1-0 win in the Premier League title race earlier this month.
City will complete a historic domestic treble if they beat Watford this weekend.
Barnes, who played for Watford for six years from 1981, speaking on behalf of BT Sport, said: “It depends how you approach the game.
“Look at what Leicester did, they allowed City to have the ball and defend with 11 men and then hoped to catch them on the break or from set-pieces.
“Watford should look at that and maybe say ‘that’s how we’ll approach the game’.

“The one thing you would say is that it’s a one-off game and anything can happen. If Watford think they can come and play an open, attacking, gung-ho game, they’ll lose heavily.
“But Watford don’t play that way anyway. They play with one up front, five in midfield and pack the defence, they’ll hope Man City can’t play through them.
“If Man City underperform, not in terms of complacency, then Watford have a chance.”
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer dubbed Manchester City the best Premier League team ever after beating Liverpool to the title last weekend.
City finished the 2018/19 season on 98 points, one point ahead of Liverpool after winning 14 games on the bounce.
And Barnes admits he would find it hard to disagree with Shearer if City win a domestic treble.

He added: “For the first time in history Manchester United won the Champions League, the league and the FA Cup and Liverpool and other teams have done the double.
“But to win the three domestic trophies, then you’re judged in England.
“In the Champions League you’re judged in Europe, whereas to win everything you’ve entered in England, at this moment in time, I would find it hard to disagree with it.”

Watford then made the 1984 FA Cup Final, where, as under-dogs, they were beaten 2-0 by Everton. Watford would go on to reach the FA Cup semi-final again in 1987 only to lose to Tottenham Hotspur. Barnes was by this point becoming restless and speculation was mounting in the newspapers as to which big club would sign him. [citation needed]
Talking Points: City v Leicester. Probable formation: No reason to expect City to go anything other than a fluid and flexible 4-1-4-1 (or 4-3-3) against the Foxes. Leicester have player with pace in the form of Jamie Vardy and Demarai Gray and will look to play the Blues on the counter-attack.
