Manchester United should forget about Sir Alex Ferguson and focus on the present, says former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged Manchester United to forget about Sir Alex Ferguson – claiming the Scot has a negative impact on the club.

United have struggled to emulate their legendary manager’s success since he retired in 2013.

Three bosses have come and gone, all of whom failed to win a league title, and the club have finished outside the top four on three occasions.

Sir Alex continues to watch over proceedings at Old Trafford as a director and club ambassador, while current interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been calling on his former boss for mentoring.

However, former United striker and Swedish legend Ibrahimovic believes the 77-year-old’s continued presence is damaging the club’s future.

He told the Mirror: “Everything that happens is judged by the era of Ferguson.

“They are saying if Ferguson was here, this would not happen, Ferguson would not do it like that. Ferguson would do it like this. Everything was Ferguson.

“If it was me, I would say I don’t have Ferguson anymore. And I come here and I want to make my own history, I want to make my own story.
